Días de Verano (Summer Days)

Días de Verano is our three monthsummer program providing all-day summer programming with language and literacy reinforcement for K-8th Grades. Each summer we serve 25 elementary school students and 15 middle school students.

Summer Days curriculum focuses on extending the learning process beyond the school year into the summer in order for children to not lose education skills during the summer. The children read, write in journals and do mini projects on a daily basis as well as visit Des Moines attractions as the zoo, Living History Farms and Adventureland, as well as swimming, visits to the library and local parks..

"Andy had such troubles reading a level 3 book that he would read about 4 pages and either want me to read it or get frustrated enough with it that he would just put it away. Two days ago we found that same book and he read the entire book in a day and a half and is now moved on to another book. He now reads in the car instead of playing his gameboy…" parent quotation about the impact the Summer Days program has had on her son, Andy.

The program operates Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm beginning in June and ending in August. Over the years we have been able to keep the cost of the program low due to generous donations from Prairie Meadows, Polk County, United Way and Wells Fargo.

For questions or request to enroll your child please call 515-242-0225.
